API 5L seamless line pipe is generally classified according to how it is manufactured. There are two main methods of manufacturing API 5L seamless line pipe: cold drawing and finishing, cold drawing refers to the pipe making method that draws or forms the pipe at room temperature. This approach is advantageous for creating better surface finishes, tighter tolerances, lighter walls or smaller tubing diameters. Hot Finished API 5L Seamless Line Pipe is manufactured without using any cold working which means the seamless pipe is manufactured while the material is extremely hot. Both processes are commonly used.
