Cold Rolled High Carbon Steel Strip
Cold rolled steel coils have excellent plate shape and surface quality, good flatness and good surface finish.
Cold plate has a clean and bright surface and is easy to coat. Strip steel has tighter thickness tolerances than cold rolled steel. Before rolling,
the hot rolled strip is pickled to remove surface impurities and ensure a uniform surface finish.
The strip does not shrink or creep at room temperature and is a homogeneous light steel that is easy to manufacture, transport and install.
High carbon steels are valued for their strength properties and their properties are significantly higher than those of regular steel grades.
In addition, high carbon steel is able to be hardened as a whole by heat treatment. The highest carbon grades of steel,
with carbon content of 0.65% to 1.05%, meet BS1449:Part11991 standard specifications CS70, CS80 and CS95.
Internationally, the steels will be recognized as Euronorm EN 10132 grades C75S, C85S and C100S, as well as AISI grades 1070, 1080 and 1095.
High carbon steel strips can be produced in a variety of tensile strengths/hardnesses to suit the subsequent part manufacturing process and end-use involved.
The softened/annealed condition provides maximum deformability for more complex part shapes or, conversely, reduces relative wear of part forming tools.
In this case, hardnesses of 160-200 VPN (corresponding to tensile strengths up to about 690 N/mm2) are typical values.
After processing in the softened state, the component can be subsequently heat treated to achieve the final required strength/hardness level,
which can be up to 650VPN (tensile strength 2200 N/mm2), depending on the grade.
Using these steels, elastic properties can be achieved with hardnesses of 380-580VPN (tensile strength 1280-1960N/mm2),
while cutting blade properties of 500-650VPN can also be developed.
In addition to being used in the annealed condition,
high carbon steel strip can also be used in the hard cold rolled or pre-hard tempered condition depending on the design of the end-use component and how it is manufactured.
The hardness level of hard cold rolled is usually 240-320VPN (equivalent to tensile strength of 824-1090 N/mm2),
while the hardness of pre-hardened tempering ranges from 380 to 650VPN (same tensile strength as above).
